EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison goes viral with ill-timed Blackpool Tower ‘tribute’ after THAT netting gaffe – with fans’ memories cast back to Olly Murs’ iconic Oxford Circus tweets

EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison was ridiculed by social media users on Thursday after sharing an ill-timed 'tribute' to Blackpool Tower.

The iconic landmark was the subject of thousands of memes after it was revealed that a 'fire' that broke out turned out to be orange mesh loosened by the wind.

And while much of the internet heard about the gaffe and showed off their comedic talents with cheeky jokes and posts galore, Cheryl seemed to miss the update as she posted a selfie in front of the tower with a powerful message.

She wrote: 'May the Tower forever stand tall in Blackpool .'

In a moment eerily similar to Olly Murs' Oxford Circus 'gunshots' tweets, users quickly responded to Cheryl's post clarifying that no fire had broken out.

Olly caused a wave of confusion on social media when he shared a tweet claiming gunshots had been fired in central London, despite police insisting in November 2017 that they had not returned.

The 33-year-old singer was left confused as shoppers ran for their lives outside Oxford Circus tube station on November 24 last year.

Reports of an alleged terror attack left Black Friday shoppers stranded in stores as armed police patrolled the scene on one of the busiest shopping nights of the year.

Olly was in Selfridges department store, almost half a mile away, when the chaos unfolded.

He tweeted to his 8.4 million followers: 'F*** everyone, get out of Selfridges now, gunshots! I am in.'

But just over an hour later, British Transport Police said there was no evidence of a terror attack.

He was repeatedly criticized for his tweet after sixteen people were injured during the stampede.

Six months later, he continued to insist in an interview that something 'dark' was going on that evening and even hinted at a cover-up.

He told The Sun: “Something happened that day. I don't know if it was hidden.'

Olly said an employee told him and 20 others sitting in a back room that they saw “a man in the beauty salon with a gun.”

The Voting Judge says he did not hear the shots himself, but decided to tweet about it when he heard the employee's report.

He added: 'I was running for my life and I thought, 'Someone is shooting upstairs.' The sound of people screaming was terrifying.”

Police ultimately said two men were involved in an altercation, which could have caused the panic.

Witnesses said the two men 'bumped into each other' before 'several punches' were thrown on the westbound platform of Oxford Circus.

But despite being on the other side of the road, near Bond Street Tube, Olly is convinced that more has happened.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said six fire engines and a drone team had been sent to Blackpool Tower just before 3pm on Thursday and urged people to 'stay away'.

A team of specialist climbers were also seen on the Promenade as locals gathered to watch the emergency operation.

Photos and videos appeared to show flames coming from the top of the 160-metre-high cast-iron structure, just above a viewing point known as the Blackpool Tower Eye.

But after a helicopter was sent to investigate the true cause of the fire, police said at around 4.30pm: 'We can confirm that orange mesh is visible.'
