EastEnders’ Lola in tears over touching gesture from the community as she enters her final days

Ronnie’s Lola Pearce-Brown was in tears over a touching gesture from the Albert Square community during Monday’s emotional episode.

The character, played by Danielle Harold, has a terminal brain tumor and was recently given just months to live, with her final scenes airing this week.

Despite struggling to move or speak, Lola was visited by her colleagues and friends Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kim Fox (Tameka Empson).

Kim had one last surprise for Lola, as Jay had her help move her in a wheelchair to her living room window only to see some of her neighbors show her a message spelled “Hello Lola.”

The touching moment brought Lola to tears as residents like Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) said goodbye.

Lola started having epileptic seizures in the last episode and the nurse breaks the news to Jay that his wife has not long to live and the end is near.

Lola’s final scenes will air on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

Meanwhile, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) was overcome with emotion and spent a lot of time drinking at the Queen Vic.

He then had a tense confrontation with Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), which led to the police showing up and preparing to arrest him.

Last week’s episodes left viewers “sobbing” when Lola began to say her final goodbyes to her daughter Lexie during Wednesday’s episode.

As her condition worsens, Lola says goodbye to her loved ones, starting with her daughter Lexie.

After undergoing a baptism to “end up” in heaven with her daughter, the couple shared a heart under the belt.

Lexi told her mother, “I’m glad we’re going to heaven together.

Lola replied, “Me too. But I can wait a very long time, okay? I want you to have a long and happy life first. I’ll always watch over you, you know?’

As Lola began to cry, she continued: Lex, while mom is getting a little weaker, I want you to be a little stronger for me, okay?

“You know, if you ever want to talk to me, like that pastor did to God, just talk to me. I will always listen.

“If you’re in pain, you’ll feel my arms tight around you.

“When you’re happy, you’ll hear me laughing with you.

“I’ll always, always watch over you, okay?”

Lexie replied, “When I have a daughter, I’m going to tell her all about you.”

Their emotional conversation was then cut short by Lexie’s father Ben Mitchell, who came to apologize for his behavior.

Earlier in the episode, an agitated Ben lashed out at Lola for “not fighting enough” telling her “you should be in the hospital.”

He also revealed to Lola that he told their daughter she would be there when Lexie starts school in September.

Despite a clash of heads between Ben and Lola’s current partner Jay, who told him to ‘back off’, his words don’t seem to get through.

As the episode’s final credits were rolled, a conniving Ben could be seen on the phone with a doctor, telling the professional his plans to keep Lola alive for a few more months.

Fans took to Twitter when the episode aired and were heartbroken at the devastating scenes.

“I’m sobbing,” one wrote, while “God this is heartbreaking,” a second added.

An EastEnders boss has revealed why they chose Lola Pearce for the BBC soap’s tragic terminal cancer storyline.

The character, played by Danielle Harold, has a terminal brain tumor and was recently given only months to live, with her final scenes expected to air this week.

And while this has left many viewers devastated, the soap’s executive producer Chris Clenshaw has admitted that it was exactly why it “had to” be done.

According to Chris, since show bosses wanted to raise awareness for the condition, the character had to be “beloved.”

At a press screening for Lola’s final episode, he discussed the immense thought leading up to their decision, revealing, “The end of one of our biggest storylines of the past year, and almost everyone on the show is extremely proud of the story.” , it is also an extremely sad time for us as we say goodbye to the incredible Danielle Harold.”

He continued, “When we first came up with the idea of telling the story, we debated for a long time, and it certainly wasn’t a decision we took lightly.

“The story was so powerful and we know from previous stories like this that when EastEnders tackles or raises awareness about an issue the impact can be huge and we all felt this was one of those stories that needed to be told.

“With the support of Brain Tumor Research and Macmillan Cancer Support, whose help and support has been invaluable to us as well as all families and especially those actually going through what Lola is, our understanding of the issue grew and we knew exactly how important was that we told this story.

“And I can tell you, from the beginning Danielle poured her heart and soul, not only into the execution but also into the detailed research.”

Chris added that he was full of praise for Danielle portraying Lola’s devastating journey.

“I find it incredibly difficult. None of us want to say goodbye to the character and none of us want to say goodbye to Danielle, but I think that’s the character that Danielle created.

“She is so loved, and you can only really tell a story like this with a character who is so loved.

“We all know how talented Danielle is. But from the beginning of this storyline, she blew everyone away,” he said.

“Not only has she portrayed the brutality of what many who face a terminal diagnosis go through with such care and attention, but she has been meticulous in how she has done it.”

“For the next week Danielle will rightly be on screen at the center of the show and as viewers know Lola is sadly nearing the end of her life,” he admitted.

While it was a tough watch, there were many moments where we hinted at Lola’s determination and tenacious nature – something that Danielle and all of us were eager to make sure we continued.

With those around her, including Jay and Billy, played by Jamie Borthwick and Perry Fenwick – all of whom have been excellent with this story – we see a family preparing to say goodbye.

“It’s incredibly moving and with the powerful performances from everyone involved, and we hope we’ve raised awareness of an issue that affects so many.”
