EastEnders will return after fans were “devastated” on Monday night after Whitney was forced to terminate her pregnancy.

After an agonizing wait for their test results, Whitney and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) are told their baby boy has Edward’s syndrome.

It was then that the couple decided what to do.

Discussing her options in the hospital waiting room, Whitney tearfully said: “The baby is going to die.”

It could be now, when he’s born, or in a couple of days.

Looking at Zack and cradling his stomach, he continued, ‘You can’t tell me you can see that. You can’t tell me we can see her go through that.

‘I don’t do what if. I only have what I feel, in my guts. I love this baby so much. I want to hug her and I want to meet her.

‘You don’t have to agree. I can’t risk letting her feel pain or suffer. I will have the termination.’

Tragic: EastEnders to return after fans were ‘devastated’ on Monday night after Whitney was forced to terminate her pregnancy

On Twitter as the episode aired, fans were “devastated” by the couple. One said: ‘Poor Whitney, can’t she have a happy ending?’

Another added: “I don’t know why they can never let Whitney have much happiness on the show.”

“Of course Whitney can’t have a healthy baby,” said another viewer.

Other viewers discussed Whitney’s actual decision to terminate her pregnancy, with one fan noting, “It’s Whitney’s choice.” It’s her body.
