A 3.0 magnitude earthquake has struck in Victoria’s east, with some residents claiming to have felt the quake when they woke up to a ‘strong rumble’.

The earthquake was recorded at around 12.03am on Saturday in Lakes Entrance, a coastal town in the east of the state about 319km from Melbourne.

In a Facebook post, one woman said: ‘I was woken up by a loud rumble and checked my phone and it was 12.03am. I thought I was going crazy.’

No one was injured and no damage was reported, Victoria’s State Emergency Service (SES) said in a tweet.

It follows a wild week of weather across the southern state, with multiple flood warnings still in place for parts of the Yarra and Thompson rivers.

At 10.10pm yesterday a moderate warning was issued for the Yarra River from Millgrove to Coldstream, with residents urged to move to higher ground.

“The Yarra River catchment has recorded an average of 14mm of rain in the upper part of the catchment and about 9mm in the lower part of the catchment since 09:00am on Thursday,” an alert from the SES said.
