Earthquake aftershock hits Melbourne: City is rocked by new quakes

Melbourne has been rocked by aftershocks following a magnitude-4 earthquake on Sunday evening.
A magnitude 2.3 quake was detected just after 5pm on Tuesday at a depth of 4km in Croydon, about 30km east of central Melbourne.
“We are aware of a small earthquake near Croydon in eastern Melbourne about half an hour ago,” Geoscience Australia tweeted.
“Compared to Sunday night’s, it was very small, with only 20 felt reports so far.”
The organization encouraged anyone who felt it to report it their website.

Sunday’s quake struck at about 11:47 p.m. with an estimated magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale near Sunbury, 22 miles (36 km) northwest of the city. It was later upgraded to a magnitude of 4
Adam Pascale, chief scientist at the Seismology Research Centre, said there was also another earthquake in Ferntree Gully shortly after 5pm.
A man living in Beaconsfield, south-east of Melbourne, claimed he had ‘heard’ it.
“I thought it was a rumble when I looked on the weather radar and there was no rain to be seen,” he wrote on Facebook.
It was also felt in the Dandenong Hills, about 35 km east of Melbourne’s city centre.
