Early Star Wars Day Trailer for Disney Plus’ The Acolyte Includes a Fan-Favorite Link to the Prequel Films
Disney has started its Star Wars Day celebration early with the release of a new trailer Star Wars: The Acolyte – and one key detail has made fans particularly happy.
The Disney Plus teaser, which was released last Saturday (April 27) on Star Wars’ Korean social media channels, consists mainly of footage we’ve seen before. The 45-second trailer, which is interspersed with Korean star Lee Jung-sae promoting the show ahead of its June 4 launch on Disney Plus, consists mainly of scenes seen in Star Wars: The Acolyte‘s ominous first trailer.
However, there are brief snippets of new sequences amid the teaser’s familiar footage – and there’s one particular blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, involving the return of a fan-favorite species from the prequel films Star Wars, it got fans talking.
At 0:09 we see Jung-sae’s character – the Jedi master known as Sol – use his mind-trick ability on none other than a Neomoidian. This alien species, which featured prominently in the prequel film trilogy, has been largely absent from live-action and animated Star Wars projects since the latter’s debut in May 2005. But thankfully, they’re about to make a long-awaited return in the first of many new ones Star Wars shows and films hitting small and big screens in 2024 and beyond.
The acolyte It’s just over a month away (at the time of writing) from its debut on one of the world’s top streaming services, so we can expect to see and hear more about it as the marketing campaign continues to develop. And with Star Wars Day just around the corner, plus the cast appearing at CCXP Mexico between May 2 and 5, I expect a new full-length trailer to drop online in the coming days.
The Star Wars history of the Neomoidians explained
For the uninitiated, the Neomoidians are a humanoid species that, unsurprisingly, originated from the planet Neomoidia. Originally discovered by explorers from Duros, Neomoidia was colonized by this race that crossed the galaxy and eventually became an ally of Duro.
Unlike their Duro colonists, the Neomoidians rejected galactic colonization in favor of pursuing vast fortunes. Initially, they slowly began to take control of nearby planets – collectively known as Purse Worlds – before becoming an essential cog in the Galactic Republic’s machine 3,000 years later.
Taking advantage of the decline of the Galactic Republic centuries after joining, the Neomoidians were instrumental in founding the Trade Federation, an interstellar mega-corporation in the year 350 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin, i.e. the most important battle that takes place in the year 350 BBY). Over time, the Trade Federation became embroiled in socio-political and military conflicts with the Republic – confrontations that turned the Trade Federation into the Republic’s primary adversaries.
