Eamonn Holmes is forced to bow out of his GB News show early due to ill health days after admitting he is ‘on borrowed time’

Eamonn Holmes left his GB News Breakfast show early on Tuesday morning after feeling unwell.

The presenter, who said last week he was on “borrowed time”, caused unrest among viewers when he suddenly disappeared midway through a 7.45am interview with Maria Caulfield, the under-secretary of state for mental health.

Eamonn remained silent during the interview with Caulfield, with his co-host Isabel Webster fielding questions before leaving the desk off-screen. Isabel presented the final 90 minutes of the show solo without explaining Eamonn’s absence.

A spokesperson for GB News told MailOnline: ‘Eamonn had to leave a little early today as he was feeling unwell. He hopes to be back tomorrow.’

A friend added that Eamonn, 64, was in good spirits despite having to return home early.

Eamonn spoke about his health issues at last week’s TRIC Awards, the industry event also marking his first public appearance since splitting from wife Ruth Langsford.

The star has had a tough year and admitted at the party on Tuesday that he feels like he is living on “borrowed time” after his father died of a fatal heart attack at the age of 65.

Eamonn was spotted arriving at the awards ceremony in a wheelchair as he suffers from chronic back pain and undergoes painful physiotherapy sessions.

In January, he said the “harsh reality” could be that he may never be able to walk independently and unassisted again.

Meanwhile, Ruth is said to be struggling with “tormenting feelings of guilt” over her illegitimate husband’s health problems.

There are claims Ruth is torn between helping Eamonn and moving on with her life. A source told Bella magazine that Ruth feels “terribly guilty” and that it is torture for her to see recent photos of her ex in which she looks “weak”.

“While she has every right to live her own life and do what’s right for her, she is convinced the public will see her as someone who abandons Eamonn in a time of need as he struggles with his health,” the insider explained this week.

Eamonn previously praised Ruth for her “amazing” support after he fell down the stairs of their home in November 2022.

In 2016, the star underwent a three-and-a-half hour double hip replacement surgery after living with acute pain for years.

In 2018, Eamonn described his battle with shingles and how he contracted the virus on his son Declan’s wedding day.

His years of chronic back pain began in the spring of 2021 – and came completely out of nowhere. The pain became so severe that he had to rely on a walking stick, but he soon discovered the cause.

He eventually discovered that it was three hernias that were affecting the movement of his right leg.

In September 2022, Eamonn was forced to quit his UK news show after undergoing major back surgery to address chronic back pain.

In November 2022, he suffered a terrible accident when he fell down the stairs at his Surrey home and broke his shoulder, just weeks after major back surgery.

Shortly before their separation, Ruth said she was “living in hope” that his mobility would improve.

Ruth told Woman’s Weekly: ‘I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.

“He’s doing the physio, but there may need to be some acceptance that this may never be 100% right. With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it’s not always easy. It’s a trial, but we’re getting through it as a family.”

Ruth added: ‘When I look at Eamonn, who has health issues and back problems, I realise how important your health is.’

Speaking about his woes at the start of the year, Eamonn himself said: ‘It’s like someone up there is playing with my life. In the past year I’ve had a back operation that went wrong and left me in a wheelchair.

“I fell and broke my shoulder. Honestly, you can’t make it up.”

He added: ‘I’ve tried all the treatments, but you go. I may never get rid of it,’ which is a harsh reality to face.

Eamonn admitted he wasn’t even sure if he would be able to attend the annual TRIC Awards on Tuesday, but his new high-tech gear has made him feel a lot more comfortable.
