One told MailOnline: ‘Ruth and her team have told their friends to pay attention to the comments they plan to post on social media.

‘It’s a very sad story. They are both so loved by the British public that they have won over so many people on This Morning, which they hosted for more than a decade.

“They were as close as you could get to Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan.”

The couple, who live in Surrey, have sparked buzz in showbusiness in recent months by not appearing together on their individual Instagram accounts.

Their split comes just days after Ruth revealed she fears Eamonn ‘may never be 100 per cent right’ after undergoing back surgery for almost two years due to chronic back pain.

The GB News breakfast presenter is still recovering from surgery and an injury to his shoulder which saw him take four months off work at the end of last year.

He has daily physio sessions and uses a walking stick or wheelchair to get around, with the support of his wife Ruth.

Speaking to Woman’s Weekly, Ruth said: ‘I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.

‘He’s doing the physio, but maybe there needs to be some acceptance that this may never be 100% right. Every healthcare situation – and there are millions of healthcare providers in this country – is not always easy. It’s a challenge, but we’re making it as a family.”

Ruth added: ‘When I look at Eamonn, who has health and back problems, you realize how important your health is.’

The couple have son Jack, 22, while Eamonn also has sons Declan, 35, Niall, 31, and daughter Rebecca, 33, from his previous marriage.

On their big day, Ruth walked down the aisle in a dress and matching headdress by Italian designer Angelina Colrusso.

The newlyweds were joined by famous friends including Royle Family star Sue Johnston, TV presenters Gloria Hunniford, Amanda Lamb and Jeremy Kyle, EastEnders actress Zoe Lucker and former champion boxer Barry McGuigan.

The proud groom confirmed on his Twitter page at the time: ‘Sorry if Ruth and I have been a bit quiet over the last few days…but been a bit busy – we got married yesterday.

‘Although it was truly a stunningly beautiful day, even the sun was overshadowed by my beautiful bride, who I love even more than before.’

Eamonn talked about his bride in the new issue of Hello! magazine, which got exclusive photos of their special day.

He told the magazine: ‘Ruth was the missing puzzle piece in my life. I was meant to get married.

“She is a wonderful mother to Jack, a wonderful partner both personally and professionally, and now I can proudly say she is my beautiful wife.”

Ruth, who regularly presents Loose Women, says enthusiastically: ‘Our relationship is very passionate. We look like Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

β€œEven though we bicker and argue, ultimately our love for each other and the bond we share is so strong.”

Eamonn and Ruth also presented This Morning together for 14 years and were a regular on the show on Fridays and during the school holidays.

However, in 2020 the pair were dropped from their Friday slot and replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

A source close to the couple said at the time that they were “more angry than upset” about being kicked off the show.

Since then, Eamonn has been a presenter on GB News’ Breakfast Show, while Ruth has been a regular panelist and presenter on Loose Women since 1999.
