External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Italian President Sergio Mattarella and other senior leaders here and discussed ways to further develop the bilateral strategic partnership in areas such as defence, cyber security and counter-terrorism.
Jaishankar, who was in Rome at the invitation of his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, concluded his four-day visit to Portugal and Italy on Friday.
During their meeting, the Italian President reiterated his strong support for promoting bilateral ties and deepening ties between India, Italy and India and the EU, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi said in a press release on Saturday.

The minister also held a meeting with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, which focused on deepening strategic cooperation, including industrial cooperation in defense production and areas of counter-terrorism, cybersecurity and maritime domain, the release said.
The Minister’s visit to Italy further consolidated the long-standing historical ties between the two countries and boosted bilateral cooperation in various areas of the Strategic Partnership, including on contemporary global issues and challenges, the press release said.
He also met with Italian Enterprise Minister Adolfo Urso, where he discussed ways to promote bilateral trade and investments, focusing on areas such as agrotechnology, engineering, digital infrastructure, innovation and space.

Earlier, Jaishankar held a comprehensive and productive meeting with his counterpart Tajani and signed two agreements on Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement and Cultural Cooperation Executive Program to enable seamless movement of workers, students and professionals between the two countries.
He also addressed the joint session of the Senate Committee on External Affairs and Defense, where the two leaders discussed in detail the situation in West Asia, the conflict in Ukraine and the landscape in the Indo-Pacific region.
India’s successful G20 Presidency, Italy’s upcoming G7 Presidency, India-EU relations, Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific, Ukraine conflict and situation in West Asia were also discussed during the session .
Jaishankar also appreciated Italy’s support for all of India’s major international initiatives, reflecting a growing convergence of views on crucial global issues.
“I appreciated Italy’s support for our initiatives and also for the presidency of the G20,” he said in an X post.
