EAM Jaishankar, seven Prime Ministers will attend the SCO meeting in Islamabad next week

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and prime ministers of China and Russia, among others, will attend the two-day meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government here next week to discuss continued cooperation in economics, trade and environment, Pakistan said on Saturday.

Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting on October 15 and 16 and in his capacity as current chairman of the CHG, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the summit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) said in a statement.

The SCO member states will be represented by the prime ministers of China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the first vice president of Iran and the foreign minister of India, the report said.

The CHG meeting will discuss ongoing cooperation in economic, trade, environment and socio-cultural linkages and assess the organization’s performance. The leaders will make key organizational decisions to further enhance cooperation among SCO member states and approve the organization’s budget, it added.

Announcing the level of participation for the 23rd meeting of the CHG, the FO statement further said that the Prime Minister of Mongolia will attend as an observer, while the Vice Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan will attend as a special guest will participate.

Prime Minister Sharif will also hold important bilateral meetings with visiting heads of delegations on the sidelines of the main meeting, the FO statement said.
