Multiple Eagles fans ‘sustain injuries’ after boarding a glass bus shelter that rapidly collapses under their weight as Philadelphia mayor pleads with citizens to celebrate NFC title win ‘with joy, safety and respect’ ‘

Despite warnings from Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney to celebrate “with joy, safety and respect,” several Eagles fans were seen collapsing through a glass canopy of a bus shelter in the hours after Sunday’s NFC Championship win.

PhiladelphiaCrimeUpdate.com reports that there are ‘multiple injuries’ stemming from the incident, which took place at a SEPTA bus stop on South Broad Street near City Hall.

The footage shows nearly a dozen Eagles fans standing on top of the glass structure, which shatters, throwing everyone out onto the busy street below. The video does not show the aftermath of the incident.

PhillyCrimeUpdate.com reports there are “multiple injuries” stemming from the incident, which took place at a SEPTA bus stop on South Broad Street near City Hall.

The scene was similar to the one that had taken place in Philadelphia five years earlier, when the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl for their first Lombardi Trophy. Subsequently, several Eagles fans began celebrating under a fabric awning at the Ritz Carlton until the unit collapsed under the weight of the group.

There were similar scenes after Sunday’s 31-7 win over the visiting San Francisco 49ers.

As happened five years earlier, the police greased the light poles to discourage fans from climbing above the assembled crowd. But, as was the case in 2018, Eagles supporters managed to hop on street signs and crosswalk signals.

Kenney and city police did their best to contain the rowdy crowd, which stretched from Lincoln Financial Field on the south side to the downtown area surrounding City Hall.

“As a lifelong Philadelphian and mayor of this great city, I am delighted to see fans of all ages and from all neighborhoods celebrating together with pride and excitement,” Kenney said in a statement. “This is a wonderful night and I ask Philadelphians to celebrate with joy, safety and respect.”
