Eagle-eyed NFL fans slam ‘woke’ NBC for graphic comparing Commanders QBs Jayden Daniels and Robert Griffin III
Angry NFL fans took to social media to criticize NBC for the way broadcaster Jayden Daniels overshadowed Robert Griffin III’s rushing record on Sunday night.
Daniels led his Commanders to a 30-24 playoff victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, achieving a milestone of his own en route to the victory.
The rookie quarterback ran for 127 yards, giving him a total of 867 yards for the season and overtaking the record set by Griffin in his debut 2012 season at 815 yards.
When NBC showed an image comparing the two, eagle-eyed fans noticed that NBC removed the “Redskins” logo from Griffin’s jersey.
The team rebranded in 2020 and succumbed to years of pressure by dropping “Redskins,” which is considered offensive to Native Americans. In 2021, the team played as the Washington Football Team before later becoming the Commanders.
“Imagine being so ‘progressive’ that you edit history in real time. NBC airbrushing the Redskins logo off RG3’s jersey is a clown show of the highest order,” one unhappy fan wrote on X. “If an image offends you, wait until you hear about how inflation is ruining real life.”

Another NFL fan who took to social media wrote, “NBC’s erasure of the Redskins logo is a perfect example of cultural erasure.
“Woke ideology doesn’t stop at renaming mascots – it’s about rewriting history, erasing heritage and imposing ideological control. This is a war against tradition.’
Another viewer said, “Woke NBC thinks they’re too good for the Redskins name. Newsflash: censorship doesn’t make you virtuous, it makes you a coward.
‘Freedom of expression means that you respect all opinions and do not edit out what offends you. What’s next, rewriting history books? Let’s stand up to this PC nonsense and celebrate our freedom of speech!’
Earlier this year, the family of the man depicted in the Redskins logo said they wanted him to return to the team logo.
“The fans want him back and we want him back,” said Thomas White Calf, a great-nephew of late Blackfeet Nation chief John Two Guns White Calf, after meeting with Senator Steve Daines (Republican, Montana).
‘Our ancestor was the most famous and most photographed native in history. Two Guns was also the face on the Indian head of nickel. I’m proud of him. The Blackfeet are proud of him.’

Sunday was a memorable night as the Commanders clinched their spot in the NFL playoffs
The origins of the term are disputed, according to a 2016 Washington Post article that claims the term was first used as a pejorative as early as 1863 in Minnesota.
Daniels, meanwhile, was the standout quarterback of the 2024 rookie class after the Commanders drafted him with the second pick in the NFL Draft earlier this year.
The team wraps up the regular season on Sunday at the Dallas Cowboys before their first playoff appearance since 2020 the following weekend.
