Eagle-eyed NFL fans notice remarkable referee moment during touchdown – as official steals the limelight from Justin Jefferson

Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson made an incredible long touchdown catch, but it was someone running alongside him who caught the fans’ attention.

Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold connected with Jefferson for a 98-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter, giving the San Francisco 49ers a 10-0 lead.

Jefferson is known for his great hands and his speed, so it’s no surprise he quickly torches the Niners’ secondary.

Only one of the officials was able to keep up with Jefferson as he ran across the field at breakneck speed.

The official—identified by his number as rear judge Tyree Walton—even anticipated that Jefferson would change direction during his run, adjusting himself to stay out of the way but without losing speed.

Walton even outran Jefferson as he reached the end zone, with the Vikings receiver eventually running in and dancing to celebrate the score.

Fans admired Walton’s legs and praised him on social media, while some questioned why he isn’t playing in the league himself.

Former NBA player Rex Chapman admired Walton’s speed, tweeting simply, “Wheels.”

“You can really get this guy a contract LMFAO,” wrote another user on the platform.

‘Why are the referees faster than the second line??? [laughing emojis]’, said another message.

“Bro got some flowing hips too, check it out,” read another post. “Change direction, back[pedal]turns his hips and catches the crew for the TD call.’

Sportswriter Rodger Sherman wrote: ‘I re-watched this game and what a spectacular highlight for the referee: – sees Jefferson coming his way, stops – scores 0-60, sprints over the 49ers defenders to stay out of their way – steps back, stops on the goal line to signal a possible tackle on the goal line.’

Sherman also pointed out that Walton is a former running back at Division II school Adams State who is in his second year as an NFL official.

Jefferson was forced to leave the game early due to an injury, later reported to be a leg contusion.

“I’m not seriously injured,” Jefferson said. “So that’s the biggest thing. It’s just getting in the training room, making sure my body is ready for next week, and next Sunday I’m ready to go.”

He finished the day with four catches for 133 yards, including a touchdown, which was his career-best finish.
