EA Sports ‘is REMOVING the CPR touchdown celebration from its Madden NFL 23 video game’

EA Sports plans to scrap a touchdown celebration at its Madden franchise that simulates giving CPR to a player following Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest, according to reports.

The celebration will be removed via a new update that will roll out in the coming days, according to TMZ.

This report came hours after it was announced that Hamlin had returned to Buffalo and was released from the Cincinnati hospital to which he was rushed on January 2.

This comes after Hamlin was released from the hospital in Cincinnati and arrived in Buffalo.

Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center held a news conference Monday and said Hamlin was released that morning and was safe and sound in Buffalo.

Hamlin posted several tweets after that press conference occurred, saying he would be going to Buffalo General Hospital for further testing and monitoring.

“Headed home to Buffalo today with so much love in my heart,” the security tweeted. “Seeing the world rally around me on Sunday was truly an incredible feeling. The same love that all of you have shown me is the same love that I plan to give back to the world and more. Bigger than soccer!

He later tweeted: ‘Thankful for the amazing care I received at UCMC. Happy to be back in Buffalo. The doctors and nurses at Buffalo General have already made me feel at home!’

Hamlin posted a series of tweets after arriving home in New York thanking everyone.

“I can confirm that he is fine and this is the beginning of the next stage of his recovery,” UC’s Dr. William Knight said at yesterday’s press conference.

“We continue to be excited about his recovery,” added Dr. Timothy Pritts.

On Sunday, the entire NFL paid tribute to Hamlin, with teams coloring the number three on their fields blue and red.

Other players also attended warm-ups wearing T-shirts honoring him with the phrase ‘Love for Damar’.

“When kick-off was run, he jumped up and down, got up from his chair, I think he set off all the alarms in the UCI in the process,” Pritts told reporters.

Teams from across the league also featured the number three on each 30-yard line number.

Fans of Hamlin’s team filled the home stadium at Orchard Park with signs of support.

EA’s decision reflects a real-life controversy from the most recent game between the Steelers and the Browns.

Last Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers players received backlash for celebrating a sack by having someone simulate CPR on Alex Highsmith.

Fans on social media watched the celebrations and criticized the team for their tactlessness considering Hamlin was still recovering in hospital at the time.
