Dylan Wright breaks his silence after the Australian Idol winner was accused of ‘butchering’ the national anthem during State of Origin
Dylan Wright has finally broken his silence after viewers savaged his Advance Australia Fair performance during Game One of State of Origin.
The Australia Idol winner was accused of ‘butchering’ the national anthem when he performed a ‘hipster’ version of the famous song in front of 75,000 people at Sydney’s Accor Stadium.
“I was honored to be a part of it,” he told Ny Breaking Australia during Chicago’s opening night at the Capitol Theater on Thursday.
“The main thing I noticed was that people know the words now, especially after they changed three years ago, so I’m happy with how everything went,” he continued.
“I’m a football fan, so I loved being there.”

Dylan delivered a stripped-down, guitar-based rendition of the national anthem written by Scottish-born Australian composer Peter Dodds.
However, many viewers took offense to the singer’s “devilish” interpretation.
It didn’t take long for them to flood X, formerly known as Twitter, with their thoughts.
‘What is this, the hipster song? Devilish,” one viewer wrote.
“I was honored to be a part of it,” he told Ny Breaking Australia on Chicago’s opening night at the Capitol Theater on Thursday.

‘No, hurry up with this anthem. You can’t do a cover of the national anthem,” another added.
‘Not a fan of artists who put their spin on the national anthem. Either sing it right or just play the Julie Anthony recording,” someone else said.
“Just when you thought the anthem couldn’t get any worse,” wrote a fourth.
“It could be the worst rendition of the national anthem in recent memory,” another joked.
“Get this singing national anthem out of here and sing the national anthem right,” another commented.
