Dylan Mulvaney turns heads on the Golden Globes red carpet as she approaches the one-year anniversary of the disastrous Bud Light campaign that cost the iconic brand billions

Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney appeared on the red carpet of the 81st Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday evening.

Mulvaney posed for the cameras as she walked into the ceremony, almost a year after her controversial Bud Light promotion.

Already phenomenally popular on TikTok for documenting her transition, Mulvaney is now known for the controversy surrounding her failed promotion of what was America's most popular beer for 22 years.

The brewing giant created a limited edition Bud Light can with her face to celebrate 365 days of being a girl, the phrase she uses to describe her transition

Mulvaney collaborated with the brand last April for the March Madness NCAA campaign and posted a video holding the can on April 1.

Despite the cans being produced in extremely limited quantities and only featured in one video, conservative figures were outraged and called for a boycott.

The doomed deal was an attempt by the late marketing vice president Alissa Heinerscheid to “attract young drinkers” and ditch the beer's “fratty and out-of-touch humor.”

The setback caused Bud Light's parent company Anheuser-Busch to lose $400 million in sales, with U.S. sales down 10.5 percent from the year before.

As the conservative backlash grew into a widespread boycott, Anheuser-Busch shares plummeted 20 percent, Bud Light sales fell 26 percent and Modelo Especial became the new best-selling beer in the country.

The brewer's hangover continues. Heads continued to roll at Anheuser-Busch following the resignation of its US marketing chief in November. Bud Light sales never fully recovered.

“For a company to hire a trans person and then not publicly support them is worse, in my opinion, than not hiring a trans person at all,” she previously told The Cut.

Describing herself as a “sacrificial lamb in the election landscape,” she added that the whole fiasco was a “wake-up call” and that she became “a more realistic person.”

Mulvaney later posted a TikTok video saying she was “afraid to leave the house” at the height of the backlash.

Bud Light employees accused their company's leadership of “cowardice” over the advertising fiasco, arguing that they should have been more supportive of Mulvaney.

Last month, Mulvaney revealed how she had finally changed the gender on her passport from male to female.

Despite coming out as transgender in March 2022 and becoming famous for documenting her transition, Mulvaney was still using a year-old passport.

She even showed her 10 million TikTok followers her passport photo when she still had masculine facial features and short brown hair.

She explained that she had a male passport for so long because it had to be sent for “weeks or months” to be changed and because she travels so much for work.

However, it became increasingly difficult to use as the radical difference between her appendage and the passport photo confused immigration officials.

“They don't always think I'm the same person that's in my passport… they wonder, who are you and what have you done with old Dylan,” she said.

This was made worse after she underwent facial feminization surgery earlier this year, which caused the shape of her face to deviate even further from the male passport photo.

Mulvaney filmed himself as a new passport photo was taken and marveled at how it turned out well – unlike most official photos.

She then compared it to her old passport, believed to be the first time she revealed the years-old photo on social media.

Mulvaney later documented a road trip with friends to a woods retreat, where she posed nude in an outdoor pool wearing only a red cap.

“I want to thank the U.S. government for allowing me to do this,” she said, pointing to the F next to gender on the new passport.

“And for all those people (who) called me a man: you can discuss that with the Ministry of Social Security, because my passport says otherwise.”
