Dwyane Wade says telling Gabrielle Union he had fathered a child with another woman in 2013 was ‘way harder’ than competing in NBA playoffs

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union often appear as one of Hollywood’s golden couples, but the pair have gone through some rough patches together.

The couple was recently spotted spending time together in New York while promoting their new skincare company, Proudly.

Dwyane, 41, recently opened up about one of the most difficult times in their long relationship when he fathered a child with another woman.

The couple was technically on a break when the basketball great began dating Aja Metoyer, who would become the mother of the point guard’s youngest son, Xavier Zechariah Wade.

The former MVP told the newspaper Club Shay Shay podcast that telling 50-year-old Gabrielle about the situation was “much harder to have a conversation with my current wife,” prior to the boy’s birth in 2013, than competing in the NBA that year playoffs.

“I mean, you think about it. Okay. It’s all scary. The whole situation is scary enough,” the Utah Jazz co-owner explained in a five-minute teaser clip from the two-hour interview on YouTube.

“And no matter what people out there say or what people think, at the end of the day, it’s like you have to sit with you,” he said.

“You have to sit with this person, this woman you’re going to be with, right? And I had to talk to my wife about this. Well, my current wife about this.’

The couple married almost a year later, in 2014.

Dwyane credits the Truth Be Told star for making their relationship work.

‘I tried to walk around it with my feet. I tried to break up with her: “Hey, you know things have been bad lately. We have taken a closer look at this relationship.’ Anyway, I’ve tried all that. She just kept showing up.”

The couple is and remains in therapy to address the problem.

‘It hasn’t been perfect. It will never be perfect. But that was nine years ago, and we’re still in therapy,” he revealed.

Dwyane said he worries about how his birth story will affect Xavier, now 10.
