Themba jumped to his feet at the sight of The Rock and the two men shared an embrace, in a touching moment that brought Themba to tears.
“You inspired me to work hard, man,” Themba said. ‘Thank you. Now I’m going to be a champion, believe me. Believe me!’
Dwayne recalled that he himself had only $7 at one point nearly three decades ago, after being dropped from the Canadian Football League.
Themba showed Dwayne the bench in the gym he slept on, and Dwayne offered to introduce him to “a friend of mine” named Jay, who could be a useful connection for him in his new life in Miami.
They got into a car together and ran off to meet ‘Jay’ – who was basically a made up character to hide The Rock’s real plan.
When they got to ‘Jay’s’ apartment, The Rock kept up the ruse for a while, even yelling, ‘Jay!’ while Themba went exploring.
They wandered through the house until they reached the living room, where Themba saw framed pictures of his own family.
