Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson revealed that he has worn a bodysuit to portray his character Maui in the live-action remake of Disney’s Moana.
The Red One actor, 52 – who has been busy promoting sequel Moana 2 – was spotted showing off his toned physique on the set of the adaptation in Hawaii last week.
The star – who plays Polynesian demigod Maui in both the animated films and the upcoming project – went shirtless to show off a series of tattoos on his muscular arms and chest.
However, some fans took to social media to speculate that Johnson may have been wearing a bodysuit.
During an interview with Extra Ahead of Moana 2’s release on November 27, Dwayne was asked about suiting up for the live-action film and achieving his toned figure on set.
‘That’s a suit that took a long time to put on. So I’m so glad you said, ‘You’ve gotten fatter,’ because when you say, ‘You’ve gotten fatter,’ that means you didn’t know.”

“That means spending a few hours every day transforming and putting that on,” the star further explained to the outlet.
“We were shooting outside and when those pictures surfaced I thought, ‘S**t, we got caught’ because we put up walls so there were no paparazzi.”
Johnson added: “But they got into boats and started taking pictures. But I’m glad you liked it. I can’t wait. The film will be released in 2026.’
Earlier last week, first photos emerged of Dwayne as Maui as he shot scenes for the film alongside his co-star, Catherine Laga’aia – who has taken on the role of Moana.
He was also seen holding his character’s magical fishing hook on set – which gives Maui the unique power to shapeshift into different creatures.
Johnson further got into character by wearing a green traditional Ti leaf skirt and went shirtless to show off his incredible, muscular body that was covered in several tattoos.
He also wore a long brown wig, a thick bone necklace, and thick brown bracelets on each of his wrists.
However, not long after seeing the photos, some fans speculated that the star was actually donning a bodysuit.

“So I’ve tended over the years not to sweep it under the rug, but I know there’s some crazy stuff going on and I’m dealing with it, but let me try to find a place here where I can be happy or smile or try to access some happiness and joy.’
The Black Adam actor said, “I find myself doing that. It helps me deal with the not-joyful things.”
