Dwayne Johnson, 50, teases live-action remake of Moana
Dwayne Johnson, 50, announced he would reprise his role as Maui in a live-action version of the Disney hit Moana.
The wrestler turned actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a behind-the-scenes video of him enjoying quality family time in Hawaii with his wife, Lauren Hashian, and their daughters, Tiana, five, and Jasmine, seven .
Johnson – whose oldest daughter made her WWE debut this weekend – showed his softer side as he played on the sand while his girls hugged him, swung him around his neck and sang along to the iconic Moana song You’re Welcome.
During the video, he said, “I had the real honor and privilege of not only being here in the islands of Hawaii where I spent a lot of my childhood, but more importantly, I had the privilege of meeting my family with me.’
He added: “You know, I always like to say, if it’s all taken away today, what did I just go through [daughter Jasmine] and her sister Tia was pretty, man.”

The Red Notice star captioned the video, “Our #Moana announcement was a very special day. My family and I felt the mana, the power of the ocean and the spirit of our ancestors.
“Thank you so much for the love, excitement and support. Singing, dancing, culture. Maui is the role of my life and I will give it everything I’ve got,” Johnson wrote.
The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star shared a short video of her wearing it to the beach jeans and a white short-sleeved shirt, while his young daughters wore summer dresses reminiscent of Vaiana’s.
The Fast and Furious actor shared that he took his inspiration from his late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia.
Johnson revealed to Variety“We found so much inspiration for Maui in the mana and the presence of my late grandfather, the legendary High Chief Peter Maivia.
“He would walk in and light up the room — the energy, the tattoos, the hair, the body. [sings with daughters] “When you stare at a demigod,” Thank you. Sorry, I’m getting caught up in the moment.
He concluded: ‘We are going into the ocean. Yes. Oh, look at the love I got. Is Daddy Maui? No! Do you want ice cream? Yes! So Dad is Maui.”
“So as you can see — perfect timing as the sun rises — how deep the story is to me, because when I bring Maui to life, I’m doing it, in a way, in my grandfather’s mind. So it is still very early in the process. There is still so much work to be done.
“But until then, there is one more thing I need to start this journey off right. Do girls want to get that special thing that daddy needs? [Bring out his staff] Wow, you are daddy’s daughters. You are so strong. Thank you very much guys.’
Johnson also has another daughter, Simone Johnson, 21, who he shares with ex-wife Dany Garcia.
Johnson’s eldest daughter followed in her father’s footsteps as a professional wrestler working under the name Ava Raine.
On Saturday, she became the first fourth generation wrestler in WWE history with her debut at NXT Stand and Deliver.
The 21-year-old daughter of ‘The Rock’ took her bow in the ring as part of an eight-person tag-team match between Chase University and the stable she’s a part of, The Schism.

The game lasted just over 11 minutes and Raine had a few trips into the action, but her side suffered a loss in its first appearance, with Chase University taking the win.
Raine’s lineage in the business goes back to The Rock, her grandfather Rocky Johnson and her great grandfather High Chief Peter Maivia.
Raine joined WWE in February 2020, but her progression to TV has been hampered by a serious knee injury.
Still, Shawn Michaels told SportsMail that the company has high hopes for Raine and that she is progressing well at their development base in Orlando, Florida.
