Dustin Poirier will make his long-awaited return to the octagon at UFC 299 after UFC supremo Dana White confirmed the American's next fight.

Poirier hasn't stepped foot in the octagon since July last year, when he suffered a brutal head-kick KO against fellow countryman Justin Gaethje.

Now, following an announcement from UFC chief White, 'The Diamond' will make his return in the co-main event of UFC 299 against Benoit Saint-Denis.

Poirier was previously tipped to appear on the highly anticipated UFC 300 card, which is expected to feature the organization's biggest names competing.

However, following White's announcement, it has now been confirmed that the American will sooner fight in a five-round thriller on the UFC card.

The American will take on Benoit Saint-Denis in a five-round thriller in March

Poirier will look to bounce back from the disappointing loss to Poirier where he suffered a brutal KO loss.

'The Diamond' has never lost consecutive fights in his career and will be hoping to secure that record when he takes on Saint Denis on March 9.

However, while he suffered a defeat in his only fight of 2023, fans will remember his dominant victory over Michael Chandler in November 2022, which should give him hope for a win.

Saint-Denis, on the other hand, is a name that has rarely come up in light-hearted discussions in recent years, but he is starting to prove himself in the division.

At UFC 295, the French fighter recorded an impressive head-kick KO against Matt Frevola and also earned himself a Performance of the Night bonus.

His record in the UFC stands at 5-1, having only suffered a defeat in his debut UFC fight in 2021.

Elsewhere on the UFC 299 card, Sean O'Malley will defend his bantamweight title against Marlon Vera.

Dana White also revealed that lightweight star Charles Oliveira (above) will face Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300

Meanwhile, welterweight bouts between Gilbert Burns and Jack Della Maddalena, and Kevin Holland and Michael Page promise an exciting evening.

UFC chief White also revealed that lightweight star Charles Oliveira will face Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300.

During the exciting event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in April, White confirmed that 'do Bronx' will fight Tsarukyan following his win over Beneil Dariush.

He added that the winner of the fight will become No. 1 contender for champion Islam Makhachev, who White expects to return in the summer after recovering from injury.
