Dustin Martin spotted in secret a meeting as the Tigers legend could be ‘set to start a completely new footy career’

  • Richmond legend Dustin Martin announced his retirement from footy in August
  • There was speculation he could join Damien Hardwick at Gold Coast
  • The three-time Norm Smith medalist could now start a new career

According to reports, Richmond legend Dustin Martin may be about to hit the airwaves after he was photographed having coffee with multiple television powerbrokers.

There has been speculation in recent months that Martin, 33, could revive his football career after announcing his retirement in August.

Some had even claimed the three-time premiership winner could move north to the Gold Coast to play under former Tigers coach Damien Hardwick.

However, Martin appeared to pour cold water on those rumors at Richmond’s best and fairest awards ceremony last month, claiming he was ‘happily retired’.

But it appears Martin has a new venture on the horizon and could join Fox Footy for the upcoming season The Herald Sun.

It came after the three-time Norm Smith medalist was pictured enjoying a cup of coffee with Foxtel boss Patrick Delaney and Fox Sports director Steve Crawley on Tuesday.

Rumors have been circulating that the 33-year-old midfielder could return to the football field and join former coach Damien Hardwick.

Ex-Tigers teammate Jack Riewoldt, who regularly appears on Fox’s show AFL360, was also at the table, next to Martin’s manager Ralph Carr.

Martin’s agents declined to comment on the reports. Ny Breaking Australia has also contacted Foxtel for comment.

It comes amid a massive shake-up in Australia’s sports media landscape, with several presenters and pundits swapping to join rival broadcasters.

Channel Nine presenters Kane Cornes, Caroline Wilson and Craig Hutchison all moved to Channel Seven, while ex-Geelong striker Tom Hawkins, who also retired at the end of the season, joined Fox Footy.

He was followed by ex-Hawks star Shaun Burgoyne who will leave Channel Seven to join Fox.

Martin announced his retirement in August, but could now enter broadcasting

Fox is making huge waves in the broadcasting world as the network is set to kick off a new rights deal in 2025.

The landmark deal will see the broadcaster boost its coverage of the AFL, with at least the first eight national rounds and the first 15 rounds in Victoria shown live, in 4K and commercial-free.

In a statement released in October, Foxtel Group also said: ‘In 2025, viewers can expect more surprises in the comments section. Watch this space.’

The addition of Martin to the Fox Footy line-up would be a huge win for the broadcaster given the powerful midfielder’s status in the game.
