After the release of the Dune: ProphecyMax has revealed the official trailer and it looks every bit the epic space opera we’ve come to expect from what’s likely to be one of Max’s best series when it launches in November.
Imagine it takes place 10,000 years before the ascension of Paulus Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and found the legendary cult that will come to be known as the Bene Gesserit.” The new show looks set to firmly establish itself as Game of Thrones in the space filled with political intrigue and power plots.
The new trailer teases conflicts within the Imperium and sows the seeds for the creation of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood, as two Harkonnen sisters move between the great houses. It also gives us a glimpse of some of the series’ stunning locations, and opens up the universe of Dune outside Arrakis. Emily Watson’s Valya Harkonnen hints at the coming war when she warns, “The more influence our sisterhood gains, the more enemies we make.”
What is Dune: Prophecy about?
Dune: Prophecyformerly titled Dune: The Sisterhoodis inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dunewritten by Frank Herbert’s son Brian Herbert and famed sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson. Although announced over five years ago, delays due to the pandemic and Hollywood writers’ strikes led to major creative overhauls during production.
While some big names like Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma have left the show, the cast is still solid, with the likes of Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Olivia Williams, Jessica Barden and Bollywood megastar Tabu joining Mortimer. Alison Schapker, formerly of Altered carbon And Westworld serves as showrunner.
Prophecy is not everything Dune Fans can look forward to both, as Villeneuve announced earlier this year his plans to conclude his trilogy with a film adaptation of Dune: Messiah after the release of Dune Part 2 on Max in May. We may have to wait a while for that, since the director has a project outside the Dune universe first. However, he has given a promising update, announcing, “I know exactly what I need to do. I’m writing it now.”
Max’s future looks bright for genre TV fans over the next 18 months, with Dune: Prophecy accompanied by The Batsman spin-off penguina second season of The last of us And Game of Thrones precursor A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
