Dude with a sign! Die-hard Kochie fan makes a sign for the host on his final day on Sunrise

David ‘Kochie’ Koch marked his last day on Sunrise on Friday, after an incredible 21 years in the job.

And at the Channel Seven Sunrise studios in Sydney’s Martin Place, Kochie was greeted with a handmade sign by a diehard fan as viewers watched the TV veteran sign off for the last time.

A gambler held the sign proudly in front of the studio’s glass windows as Kochie said goodbye on air.

The man appeared to be channeling Instagram sensation Seth from the hit account, Guy with a sign.

Alongside a series of photos of Kochie and co-host Natalie Barr, the poster read, “We’ll miss you!”

Kochie celebrated his last Sunrise show on Friday, having resigned from the show earlier this week.

At one point, Kochie was seen on air being given a guard of honor as he walked through the Sunrise studios for the very last time.

He was greeted with applause, hugs and well wishes from the Sunrise team and his family.

Kochie jokingly “bumped” his replacement Matt Shirvington when he stepped onto the set of Sunrise for the last time on Friday.

In a cheeky dig at the time Tracy Grimshaw clumsily snubbed her ACA replacement Allison Langdon last year, Kochie pretended not to see Matt, 44, who takes over the top job as co-host of Sunrise starting next Monday.

After kissing his wife Libby, Kochie jokingly knocked out former Olympian Matt who appeared dejected after trying to hug Kochie.

‘Just kidding, just kidding. I’ve got an Ally Langdon for you!’ Kochie said as she laughed and hugged Matt.

“You almost got me, you almost got me!” Matt replied laughing.

He was later presented with a cake, hilariously decorated with a figure of himself in powdered sugar, as he closed the broadcast for the very last time.

“It was very busy, a spectacular job,” said Kochie, getting emotional as he cut a cake surrounded by the Sunrise team and his family.

“This family, they have been with me through the best and worst of times. Thanks for having me,” he said.

Nat also shared a tribute to Kochie as she broke down in tears.

“For the past 20 years I’ve sat at that desk with him and watched him get to the heart of an interview and cut through all the PR and all the bullshit. And I’ve learned so much,” said Nat.

“We’ve traveled Australia and we’ve traveled the world and watched thousands and thousands of hours of live television and we’ve laughed and laughed and we cried.”

‘What’s he like? He is one of the best friends I will ever have in my life and I will cherish the years we had on the air. And I know we’ll have many more years, they’ll just look a little different. Congratulations.’

Kochie previously said he would be leaving the hit show to focus on his own business and have more flexible working hours to spend time with his growing family.

He joined Sunrise in 2002 to present financial reports and in October of that year became Chris Reason’s replacement when the journalist was diagnosed with cancer.

Matt Shirvington, 44, who will replace Kochie, said he had ‘mixed feelings’ about the new gig.
