Duchess of Edinburgh leaves Prince Edward and Lady Louise in hysterics as she fails at drinking game during Sandringham Horse Trials

The Duchess of Edinburgh caused a stir this weekend when she took part in an unusual driving challenge.

Sophie, 59, was seen taking part in the Sandringham Driving Horse Trials on Saturday as her husband and daughter looked on.

During the event, the royal family was challenged to hold a wine glass full of sparkling water between their teeth while driving.

The Duchess was then supposed to place the glass at the next stand, but she missed the post.

As she attempted to reverse, Prince Edward, 60, and Lady Louise, 20, were spotted laughing hysterically from the sidelines.

She showed off her skills as she grabbed the wine glass full of sparkling water from the stand and held it between her teeth as she rode along

Sophie’s entry into the competition comes after she accepted an invitation to chair the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials.

The organisation has a long-standing relationship with the Royal Family and was founded and led from the outset by the late Prince Philip.

The Sandringham Horse Driving Trials said it was “very grateful” that the Duchess has taken on the role.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “The Duchess’s acceptance marks a continuation of the Royal Family’s valued association with Sandringham Horse Driving Trials, and we look forward to a long relationship with Her Royal Highness.”

Prince Edward wore a straw hat to protect himself from the sun and wore a relaxed outfit of a simple white polo shirt and wide brown trousers.

Lady Louise, meanwhile, looked chic in an oversized navy polo shirt tucked into camel-coloured trousers, which showed off her refined figure to best advantage.

The St Andrews University student teamed the simple look with brown leather Chelsea boots and a bright blue belt to complete the look.

Today, she wore her wavy blonde locks in a stylish messy ponytail and opted for a natural makeup look.

She made an impressive debut, winning a silver medal in the three-day competition. It is believed that her grandfather, Prince Philip, encouraged her to take up the sport.

The family were accompanied by Lady Louise’s friend Felix da Silva-Clamp, with whom she appears to have formed a strong bond as they both study at the same university in Scotland.

Felix was driven to the event by the Duchess of Edinburgh and the two relaxed and chatted as they watched the races.
