Dua Lipa gets roasted over her stripped-down Tiny Desk performance: ‘This hurt my ears’
Dua Lipa was roasted by fans after she performed a stripped-down version of four of her dance hits for an NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
The 29-year-old Brit sang Training Season, These Walls, Happy For You and Houdini to the assembled guests at the public radio network’s offices in New York City.
This was Lipa’s second Tiny Desk appearance. She first gave her songs the acoustic treatment during the pandemic in 2020 at the then Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.
Fans were torn over the quality of her performance, but many opted for criticism, with one person dramatically stating: ‘This hurt my ears.’
Another person added: ‘She doesn’t have the kind of music that works well on a small desk, but that just doesn’t fit.’

Many of the commentators simply settled for calling her performance mid and blaming it on the acoustic version of the songs.
“Can everyone see how middle she is now?” one wrote, while another said: “sounds awful.”
Someone who had never listened to Dua said, “For a long time I wondered if Dua Lipa could really sing or if it was all just technique. I think I’m going to watch this and find out.’
But other people weren’t so open. “It’s artists like that who broke the little agency,” said one.
‘Dua Lipa has no talent. Period,” one wrote mercilessly, while the other simply said, “We didn’t need this.”
Not everyone was dissatisfied with Dua’s stripped-down sound.
“It’s cool to see her like this,” one fan wrote, while another aptly said, “So nice to hear real singers with real control and talent.”
The floating hitmaker – who enjoyed a night out on the town with martinis – wore a strapless long black and white pinstripe dress with a belt around the waist.
She pulled her raven hair back into a sleek updo and accessorized it with a heavy silver chain necklace, small hoop earrings and a bracelet.

That Tiny Desk show was viewed over 130 million times and is still the most watched show in Tiny Desk history.
The new Tiny Desk concert featured songs from her 2024 album Radical Optimism.
“I’ve always wanted to come down and sit at the desk,” Lipa said between songs.
“I’ve enjoyed watching Tiny Desks, and I love the way artists come in and reimagine their songs and music, and it’s always really inspiring.”
