Drunk driver nearly four times over the limit after crash that saw boy, 8, rushed to hospital

A driver seriously injured an eight-year-old boy and then blew nearly four times the legal alcohol limit on the central coast of New South Wales, police allege.

The 51-year-old woman collided with a sedan while driving an SUV in Killarney Vale on Wednesday afternoon.

The boy in the sedan suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the sedan, a 42-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.

NSW Police officers gave the 51-year-old woman a breath test. After a positive road test, she allegedly blew 0.197 on a police station breath test.

He now faces seven charges including aggravated dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm, driving under the influence and possession of a prohibited drug.

His license was also suspended.

The woman, who was denied bail by police, will face Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.
