Drowning at Seven Mile Beach, Lennox Head

A family day at the beach turns to horror when a father drowns while trying to rescue his 11-year-old daughter who was washed out to sea on a bodyboard.
- A 45-year-old father drowned Wednesday night.
- His daughter was washed into the sea at Seven Mile Beach
- He saved her, but was unable to reach the shore.
- His body was recovered half an hour later at 7 p.m.
A father drowned while trying to rescue his daughter from the waves at Lennox Head overnight.
The tragedy occurred at Seven Mile Beach, on the south coast of New South Wales, at around 6:30pm on Wednesday night, when the 11-year-old boy was swept out to sea on a surfboard.
Her 45-year-old father swam to her but was unable to bring them back to shore.
His wife also swam and she and the girl were able to make it to the beach and alert authorities.
Two police officers, who were the first to arrive on the scene, entered the surf in an attempt to find the man, but were unsuccessful.
The man was rescued from the waves around 7 p.m. by surf lifeguards.
NSW Ambulance paramedics started CPR but were unable to revive the man and he died at the scene.
The family is from Lennox Head and Richmond Police District officers alerted the Irish Consulate to the man’s death.
