Drivers can defrost their windscreen in seconds thanks to this ‘magic’ button – and many drivers have no idea it’s there
- Driving experts advised drivers on how to remove a frosted windshield without a scraper
- This ‘magic’ button will help drivers in UK icy weather
Although spring is just around the corner, temperatures have unfortunately started to drop again, to the point that we even had heavy snow showers last night.
While the icy weather is great for kids who want to sled, the cold can make commuting a nightmare for motorists.
Freezing temperatures are likely to last all week in the UK, with many people waking up to completely frozen car windows.
Most motorists will instinctively grab the ice scraper from the glove compartment when a car expert has shared a nifty “magic” button that defrosts your windshield without your hands freezing off – and many motorists don’t even know it’s there.
Driving Test Success, the UK’s top driving test revision material, posted a video to TikTok explaining to motorists that they can de-ice their windscreens by turning on the windscreen fan, which heats the glass from the inside.

In cold weather, the AA has reminded motorists to ‘turn on the warm air blower’ and use their mirrors if they have them to clear frosted glass quickly.
In cold weather, the AA has reminded motorists to ‘turn on the warm air blower’ and use their mirrors if they have them to clear frosted glass quickly
They advise: ‘Start the engine and turn on the warm air blower on the windshield.
“Turn on the heated rear window and heated mirrors, if you have them.
“Turn on the air conditioner. It’s not just for summer – it removes moisture from the air to prevent the car from fogging up.
‘Don’t use your hands to wipe misted windows – you leave greasy smudges and a diamond ring can scratch the glass. If necessary, use a lint-free absorbent cloth.
“Stay with your car all the time as long as the engine is running.”
