Drivers are being warned about a simple mistake that cost a Mini owner thousands of pounds after she noticed a flashing light on her dashboard.
The driver went to her local garage to top up her windshield washer fluid after seeing that the level was running low.
With no help from the mechanics, she popped the hood and emptied the soapy liquid into a nose… moments later her car was smoking and a blue cloud was billowing from the engine.
And besides, the windshield washer light was still flashing.
Can you guess her wrong?
The woman poured windshield washer fluid where engine oil is supposed to go, causing a total wreck that started with a cloud of blue smoke
The woman soon discovered that instead of fixing the problem, she had caused irreversible damage to her Mini.
When an employee of the garage went to inspect the vehicle, he discovered that the woman had poured windshield washer fluid where the engine oil was supposed to go.
And as a result, the engine was covered with a monstrous foamy sludge.
The Mini’s engine was covered in a thick foamy sludge and the driver had to pay around £3,500 to replace the wrecked part
What turned out to be a very costly mistake required the driver to replace the engine at a cost of around £3,500
The costly mistake was posted on a Facebook motorists’ club – many users have expressed their condolences to the woman
The post was uploaded by the center of Club BMW Voiture Allemande Région in France and has received more than 25,000 comments and 37,000 likes.
A community page member shared their encounter with the woman in the garage.
The message read, “I checked and she put 5 liters of windshield washer fluid where the oil should be.”
Users were shocked by the condition of the sludge and were quick to express their views.
One person commented, “It’s funny, but this could happen to any of us.”
Some users jumped to the woman’s defense, one person saying, “You could have taken a minute of your time to fill her windshield washer!!!”
Another said, “As a professional you have to ask people if they know where to place the windshield washer… not everyone knows everything.”
Another user agreed: “Why should we know how to do everything.”
Others were angry with the garage’s service, one woman commented: ‘How come BMW sells windscreen washers without offering the customer to refill them? It’s not professional, especially for the price they sell the can.’
