A motorist has been called out for driving with a pet carrier strapped to the roof of his car on a busy highway with a “terrified” cat inside.
The Ford Falcon was photographed while traveling on Lutwyche Road in Windsor, north of Brisbane, and was posted on social media on Monday.
The large jack box was shown attached to the top of the moving car with two yellow straps.
The cat is not visible, but the bystander who took the photo of the “gruesome” act claimed the animal was in the box.
‘Yeah, that’s a cat carrier strapped to the roof racks. Yes, inside was a terrified looking cat. Yes, there was room inside the car to carry the jack,” the post read (pictured blue sedan carrying the jack box)

‘Who the hell does this? … ‘It’s scary, how was this the only option?’
Animal lovers took to social media to criticize the driver for the act of animal cruelty.
“Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have pets,” said one commenter.
“That’s wrong of the owner, and that cat needs to be rehomed with a caretaker,” another said.
“I can’t imagine what this would do to a poor kitty,” said another.
“There’s no way anyone would do that, surely,” wrote one online user.
But others said there could be other reasons why the box is on the roof.
‘Maybe it’s a sick feral cat they’ve caught, to get off their property?’ asked one.

“It looks empty and as far as you can tell it’s a snake,” said another.
The person who posted the image online said the RSPCA and police had been contacted about the sighting.
Meanwhile, others compared their stories of trying to fit their pet cats into portable carriers for transport.
“My cat is terrified every time we have to put him in the carrier and travel,” one wrote.
Mine hates the car so much we have to sedate him to go to the vet. The vet is literally at the end of our street. It’s a two minute drive,’ said another.
