A driver has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a woman who was walking with her husband.
Derek Bizzell said it was the first time his 42-year-old wife Shaunda had joined him for his evening exercise when they were hit by a car.
The pair were walking the second lap of his standard loop through the neighborhood in Chesterfield, Virginia, when they saw the vehicle turning towards them from the middle of the street.
“We walked around the sidewalk. We saw a car coming in the middle of the street, as cars always do, and then it came closer to us,” Derek Bizzell said. KCRG.
‘I saw him turn. I screamed her name and all I heard was the thump.”

The pair were walking the second lap of his standard loop through the neighborhood in Chesterfield, Virginia, when they saw a car turning towards them from the middle of the street.
Bizzell said he was knocked under the car, but his wife was thrown on top of the car.
He called 911 in a panic, but was unable to speak due to the shock of the traumatic incident.
“I couldn’t talk, but some people from the neighborhood came and grabbed my phone and they were able to talk to 911,” he said.
Shaunda was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, leaving behind her grief-stricken husband and their two adult children.
“My wife was a beautiful soul, always had a beautiful smile on her face, a genuine laugh, she had a love for God and family,” Bizzell said.
“I’m a little confused, but if I could trade places with my wife, I would,” he said.

According to police, Anderson called 911 and made threats, including “threats to shoot up a school, bomb a building and assault police officers.”
Anderson was arrested at the scene and is now facing several charges, including manslaughter, malicious wounding, threatening death or bodily harm and threatening to bomb or damage buildings.
He is being held in Chesterfield Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on May 21, according to court records.
