A driver has been charged with murder after his car allegedly hit and killed a 13-year-old girl.
The 52-year-old man allegedly drove his vehicle into a crowd at Delacour Street in Pioneer in Mount Isa, Queensland, at 2am on Saturday.
The 13-year-old girl suffered significant head injuries before dying at the scene.
Detective Inspector Dave Barron said police were investigating the incident.
‘Our sympathy goes out to the family and the community who are feeling grief at this time,’ he said.
A local described the incident as ‘horrific’.
‘It’s one of those things that really shakes you,’ she told Courier Mail.
‘It would be horrible regardless of who was involved but when it’s a young girl it is really bad.’
The driver will front Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday.
