You’ve been drinking beer all wrong! Expert reveals four tips for a better pint – and the correct glass to drink out of

From a pint in the pub on a chilly December evening to a bottle of ale in the park in summer, Brits will enjoy a brew all year round.

But many don’t drink their drinks properly, which could ruin the taste.

According to Grace Daley, Senior Brand Manager of Cruzcampo in the UK, many drink beer too quickly, from the wrong glass and even store it incorrectly.

Speaking exclusively to FEMAIL, Grace explained that beer should not always be served in a pint.

“Beer drinking culture varies from country to country, and in Britain beer and pints go hand in hand,” she explained.

Cruzcampo, which was first brewed in Seville in 1904 and launched in Britain last year – to the delight of many beer drinkers – is often served in a special goblet glass.

“This ensures that the beer stays cold when you hold the stem, and the glass also ensures that the bubbles remain vibrant until the last sip,” she says.

Drink your beer slowly – and use all your senses

“We should drink beer more slowly to enjoy the taste, rather than downing pints,” Grace explained.

‘Enjoying beer uses all your senses.

‘From the sound of the beer being poured or the bottle being opened, to the beautiful golden color, to the aroma – it’s best to take a sniff and then swirl the beer and inhale more deeply to smell the aromas of the hops.

“And the best part: the taste,” she added.

“To look like a real expert, take a sip and let the taste slide across your tongue from front to back.”

Never store it in the freezer or in direct sunlight

While some people enjoy an ice-cold brew, beer should never be stored in the freezer.

“Many pubs put their glasses in the freezer to ensure the beer stays cold until the last drop,” Grace said.

Keep it out of the sun

If you’re having a barbecue, you’ll likely set out a carton of beer in an ice tray for guests to have a drink.

But it’s best not to store your beer in direct sunlight, which can be fatal to a pint.

Pair it with food – just like wine

“Beer can go with food just as well as wine,” Grace explained.

‘There are three main principles: contrast, complement and intersection. Cruzcampo is brewed for sharing, our light beer is perfect for pairing with salty dishes (although it is just as refreshing on its own).

Although wine is traditionally included on tasting menus, beer can also be paired with food.

‘To truly embrace the Spanish way of life, we recommend enjoying Cruzcampo with tapas – jamón iberico, manchego, freshly baked bread and garlic squid, – the fresh, malty and slightly sweet taste, with a hint of bitterness cuts through rich, full flavored tapas,” Grace explained.

‘Cruzcampo was brought to Britain to help the British enjoy the authentic Sevillian lifestyle and relaxed spontaneity.

‘This gives us the chance to relax and enjoy the moment with friends over a refreshing pint.’

‘Although every pint of beer should be tasted and enjoyed. Because our brewmasters pay so much care and attention, it is only right that the taste is savored.’
