Drew Barrymore talks to Emily Blunt about their time in Alaska with Emily’s husband John Krasinski as well as ‘coolest guy ever’ Ted Danson

Emily Blunt appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote her latest film Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling

As often happens with the ET star, 49, the conversation turned to the two actresses’ shared history, specifically the time they were in Alaska filming Big Miracle in 2012.

The Devil Wears Prada actress – who recently revealed which Hollywood heartthrob made her sick – husband John Krasinski, 44, was in the film alongside Barrymore, Kristen Bell and Ted Danson.

The cast all lived in the same development, going from house to house playing cards.

One night, The Office alum’s big Red Fox Labrador Finn jumped up and tackled the Cheers actor, 76.

As often happens with the ET star, 49, the conversation turned to the two actresses’ shared history, specifically a time when they were in Alaska filming Big Miracle in 2012.

“Finn was like a big, burly dog, you know? And you guys are a very handsome couple,” Drew explained.

‘And for example you played poker in the evening. And sometimes I would come over, with Kristen Bell.”

Emily replied, “We were all in the same hallway. Do you remember? And we had to bring Ted Danson upstairs because he was downstairs and he felt really left out.”

“The coolest guy ever, it turns out,” the Never Been Kissed star interjected.

“You know Ted Danson still has a shoulder injury from Finn, like he’s bumping into him like a football player. We would throw the ball up and down the hallway for Finn,” Emily explained.

“I remember there was no way to scare him away. I remember opening my door and there you were with the ball and Finn,” Drew said.

“Luckily you were all dog lovers in that hallway, but Ted came out of his room one day and said ‘Finn’ and Finn, just as shoulder checked him out.

“That’s how big this dog was,” Drew said as Emily addressed the audience, “He was so big, guys, he was amazing.”

Emily also had a story from filming The Fall Guy to share with Drew, her audience, and her viewers about a floppy hat she wears in the movie.

“I have to tell you that the story behind the hat is what we did a lot with Fall Guy, because we wanted to improve a lot. We wanted it to feel really fresh,” Emily explained.

“But what I love about their relationship is how awkward they are and how complete, you know how sometimes you look at a love story and it’s so idealized,” she said.

“It’s that movie thing. You see it all the time where it is and then I would say this and then she would say this and then I would respond wittily with this. We didn’t want any of that. We wanted it very messy, very uncomfortable.

“And so the day before we rehearsed that whole scene on the beach and I was wearing one of those stupid hats because I’m allergic to the sun, and it kept blowing,” she said, as she set the scene.

“And Ryan said, ‘You have to wear that tomorrow.’ And the hat became the first binding.

“It’s a movie for my daughters and I’ve always wanted to make a movie for my kids, but I just didn’t know what to do,” he said. ‘

And then I found myself sitting on the threshold of a doorway for hours, watching them disappear into a magical world that we as parents are not invited into. And I thought that would be a great movie.”

Krasinski said he noticed a change in the way his girls played when the pandemic hit.

‘I started to see that they were playing less and less imaginary games. Their light seemed to go out and you could see the fear coming in and they said, “Daddy, are we going to be okay?” And I thought: stop. I was allowed to make a film about how you created that magical world; You can go back whenever you want,” he said.
