Drew Barrymore was spotted with a friend in New York City after stepping down as host of Sunday’s MTV Movie and TV Awards.
The ET star, 48, stepped down from the hosting gig as a sign of solidarity with the Writers Guild of America strike.
The Drew Barrymore Show host looked very casual in gray sweatpants, a T-shirt with a lion on it and a yellow and tan knitted hat.
The Never Been Kissed actress had a blue jacket tied around her waist and brown sheepskin boots on her feet.
“I have listened to the writers, and to truly respect them, I will be hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike,” Barrymore said in a statement.

“Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television stems from their creation. And until a solution is reached, I choose to wait, but I’m watching from home and hope you’ll join me,” she added.
“Thank you to MTV, who are truly one of the best partners I’ve ever worked with. And I can’t wait to be a part of this next year when I can truly celebrate all that MTV has created, a show where fans can choose who the awards go to and that is truly inclusive,” her statement concluded.
The Writers Guild Of America began its strike at midnight Tuesday after negotiations with the studios fell through, citing sticking points such as remaining payments for streaming platform work, as well as staffing requirements and AI
The 50 First Dates star won’t be attending the live event, but she’s already taped some segments that will air during the broadcast.
There will also be no red carpet or talent interviews to show support for the standout writers.
As of now, MTV is not sure which presenters still plan to show up or how to open the show without a host.
Bruce Gillmer, the producer of the event, told Varietythat he intends to explain what is happening with the strike and why the show is not going exactly as planned and rehearsed.
“But we have a plan, as the awards are voted on by fans, we want to honor the fans’ participation and also honor the talent that deserves these awards,” he said.
So we’re going to give away the prizes. We are working on a plan to do that without the traditional presentation, should the talent or part of the talent not show up. We have backups of our backups,” he added.

And we intend to keep as many of the show’s signature elements intact as possible. We will have a live audience and it will still be a live event.
“Differently, with more pre-recorded packages and so on, which are scalable, but it’s still going to have the feel of a live event,” he explained.
“We’re going to be super respectful of the talents’ decisions to either be involved in pre-tapes, show up, or not show up, whatever they decide,” he said. ‘
We have backup plans and coverage just in case, so I guess the short answer is I’m not sure yet…”
