Herschel “Guy” Beahm, the popular streamer known online as “DrDisrespect,” has confirmed previous allegations that Twitch banned him in 2020 for exchanging messages with a minor.
“Were there Twitch whispers involving an individual minor in 2017? The answer is yes,” Beahm wrote on X on Tuesday. “If there were real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. They were informal, mutual conversations that sometimes veered too much towards inappropriate, but nothing more.” At the time of publication, Beahm has edited his tweet on X twice. This article quotes the original version of the statement he published.
Last weekend, two Twitch employees reported: one on X on June 22, and one to The edge on June 23 – to claim that Beahm was banned from the platform after using a Twitch DM feature called “whispers” to exchange messages with a minor. After the news broke, Midnight Society, a game development studio that Beahm co-founded, decided announced that it had ended the relationship with the streamer. On Tuesday, Beahm shared a lengthy statement, quoted above, on his official X account detailing his side of the story.
Polygon has reached out to Beahm and Twitch for comment.
