The demonstrator who was pinned to the ground was “randomly targeted,” according to a witness who shared videos of the arrest on X.

“NYPD randomly picks a protester from the crowd and beats him to the ground!!!” the person wrote.

“I saw the NYPD randomly attack a protester right now with my own eyes! First arrest of the day, his crime? Stand on the sidewalk!’

Earlier this week, Within Our Lifetime announced the protest, calling on people to “flood the Gaza City Hall.”

The group wrote: “In tribute to our ceaseless anti-colonial struggle, we affirm on Land Day that the struggle for Palestinian liberation is a struggle to liberate every inch of the land, from the river to the sea.

‘As we sing: Whose streets? Our streets! Whose country? Our country! We refuse to slow our movement until the genocide ends, until the siege of Gaza is lifted, until all refugees return to their homelands, until Palestine is free,” the message read.

The protest announcement came after the group caused chaos in New York City on New Year’s Day this year when they ordered participants to flood JFK’s Terminal 4.

More than 25,000 women and children have been killed in Gaza since the October 7 attack, according to estimates by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
