Dramatic influx of cash for Kamala sends latest alarm bells for Trump campaign

Donald Trump’s election campaign is reportedly in a panic after Vice President Kamala Harris’ political team raised more than $300 million in August, more than double the amount raised by the former president.

Senior officials leading Trump’s campaign beamed with confidence when incumbent President Joe Biden announced last month that he was withdrawing as the Democratic presidential nominee.

But the momentum and money have suddenly shifted in favor of Harris’ campaign, which claims They have raised more than $540 million since she entered the race on July 21, a staggering amount that surpasses Republican fundraising.

The numbers were confirmed by two campaign officials NBC News.

Harris’ campaign received a huge boost in August when Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was selected as the vice presidential nominee during the Democratic Party’s successful four-day convention in Chicago.

The massive cash infusion for Harris came after Trump’s campaign reported raising $130 million in August. The campaign says it is in a good position with nearly $300 million in cash on hand.

The massive influx of money adds to the war chest Harris inherited after Biden left office.

Some Democratic parties in the state have also said they saw an increase in donations after Biden stepped aside and endorsed Harris.

The uproar has effectively energized Democrats who were far from enthusiastic about a Biden-Trump rematch. Harris’ position at the top of the ticket has also mobilized Black women, a crucial voting bloc for Democrats.

Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign noted that 98 percent of donations in August were under $200, with an average donation of $56.

Trump has proven to be a prolific fundraiser, but the novelty of Harris’ bid has led to a surge in money from Democratic donors.

“These August fundraising numbers are a reflection of that movement and will bring President Trump’s America First movement back to the White House so we can undo the terrible failures of Harris and Biden,” said Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to Trump’s campaign.

“With Republicans united and a growing number of independents and disaffected Democrats crossing party lines, the Trump and Vance campaign has momentum going into the final stretch of the race.”

The next deadline for Harris’ campaign finance disclosures is later this month, on September 20.

Still, it looks like the money will continue to flow in for Harris, as plans are afoot to hold a series of fundraisers for Harris in September. Events could be held in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

On Tuesday, Harris’ campaign announced it would donate nearly $25 million to help Democrats win lower-district elections, the largest amount ever in a presidential cycle, the campaign said.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Trump’s campaign committee raised a total of $268.5 million between January 2023 and July 31, 2024.

But Harris’ candidacy drew so much enthusiasm from donors that it wiped out the financial advantage Trump had over Biden in late June.

Looking at the period up to the end of July, it appears that Trump had the financial advantage.

The top 10 Super PACs backing Trump have raised $305.6 million since the start of 2024, while the top 10 backing Harris, once Biden, have raised $199.2 million during the same period.

Trump is also investing more advertising money in Pennsylvania than in any other state from now through November 5, underscoring the importance of the state in preventing Harris from reaching the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

Trump advisers say the GOP candidate is in good shape for the remaining two months of the general election campaign.
