- Sean Strickland stunned the MMA world by defeating Israel Adesanya
- The American won via unanimous decision to claim the world middleweight title
- Drake placed a $920,000 bet on Adesanya to beat Strickland on Saturday
Drake has suffered another big betting loss following Sean Strickland’s shocking victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293.
Strickland pulled off one of the biggest upsets in MMA history by winning the UFC middleweight title via unanimous decision.
All three judges scored it 49-46 for the American, who clearly won the first round by dropping his opponent and managed to put constant pressure on his rival and land big shots as the fight progressed.
And Drake – who has become infamous for his high-stakes sports betting – had shared a betting slip on his Instagram on Saturday showing he had risked $500,000 (£430,000) on Adesanya to beat Strickland by knockout.
However, Adesanya’s shock defeat meant he missed out on a massive $920,000 (£738,000) payout.

The result is the latest gambling defeat for the Canadian in what has become known as the ‘Drake Curse’.
Just last month he placed a £196,000 bet on Nate Diaz to beat Jake Paul, with the YouTuber-turned-boxer scoring a unanimous victory in a hard-fought match in Dallas, Texas.
If Diaz had defeated ‘The Problem Child’, the Canadian artist would have won approximately £784,000.
Drake likely backed Diaz after placing a bet on Paul to beat Tommy Fury earlier this year.
On that occasion he bet £313,000 on the American who lost to Fury via split decision.

This is also the second time he has lost money supporting UFC star Adesanya, who is also a longtime friend of the musician.
Drake lost £1.7million after backing Adesanya to win over Brazilian Alex Pereira last October.
On that occasion, Pereira scored a second-round TKO victory over Adesanya, although the latter retaliated with a knockout victory in April this year to regain the middleweight title.
Meanwhile, he was losing £784,000 a year in Decemberafter betting that Argentina will beat France in the World Cup final in normal time.
Strickland said after his win over Adesanya: “Am I dreaming? Will I wake up? Someone hit me!
“I don’t cry much, but I’m trying to keep it all together now.”
