Dragons’ Den is celebrating a milestone this year, its 20th series. Initially shot in a cold London warehouse, The Den was recreated in Manchester’s former Granada Studios a few years ago, where Coronation Street used to be filmed.

Sara, who joined the show in 2019, grew up watching and being inspired by Dragons’ Den. Despite making a fortune from her Crafter’s Companion craft business, she admits that she was initially intimidated by her co-star Deborah Meaden.

In an interview with the Daily Mail earlier this year, Sara said: “I remember being very nervous to meet her, but she was so warm and welcoming.”

‘From the beginning she wanted to help me. I remember my second day in the Den I was too soft and she pulled me aside and said, “You’ve got to toughen up.”

Deborah also had a strong opinion about where Sara was allowed to watch while on the show. “After my first scene when someone was throwing, she said, ‘I need you to look ahead, don’t look at me.'”

“I can feel what she’s feeling right now, I can just look at her finger or something and get a sense of what she’s thinking, even if I’m not looking directly at her.”

The two have formed a close bond. “Because we’re both women, we spend more time doing our hair and makeup, which gives us a chance to chat,” says Sara.

‘She is a fantastic mentor and someone I look up to. Sometimes I still pinch myself that I am not just sitting next to her as an equal, but receiving advice and support from her.
