Dr Michael Yung death: Inside the lives of Kerem Aydin and Jacinta Davila who are charged with his murder

On social media, Kerem Aydin, 22, and his partner Jacinta Davila, 27, looked like a normal couple excitedly speeding through a whirlwind romance.

The couple, who met in July 2022, called each other “King” and “Queen”, shared the news of their holiday in Turkey, delighting loved ones with news of their engagement and the birth of their newborn daughter.

But on Monday something changed drastically.

Top doctor Michael Yung, 61, was seriously injured in what initially appeared to be a home invasion at his $2 million home in the affluent Adelaide suburb of Gilberton.

On Tuesday evening, the sad news arrived that Dr. Yung, a respected pediatric surgeon, had died in hospital.

And in a dramatic twist, Aydin and Davila were charged with Dr. Yung's murder on Wednesday.

Dr. Yung is said to have been attacked at 4.20am on Monday and rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

His family made the heartbreaking decision to withdraw his life support on Tuesday afternoon after doctors informed them that his injuries were 'not survivable'.

Dr. Yung had suffered injuries to the chest, intestines and head, causing brain hemorrhages.

Aydin and Davila, both from the western suburb of Thebarton, were arrested in neighboring Torrensville on Tuesday evening.

Footage shows Aydin being knocked to the ground by a plainclothes police officer at Torrensville Plaza, in Adelaide's inner west, about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Davila is then seen running out of the square pushing their eight-month-old child in a stroller, before also being arrested by heavily armed officers from the Special Tasks and Rescue team.

Police allege that just before their arrest, the couple stole a first aid kit from a Drake's supermarket on the square to treat Aydin's injuries.

The couple have each been charged with murder, serious criminal offenses and robbery with violence.

The couple is active on social media and has posted about a loving family with a baby who enjoys traveling to Turkey The advertiser.

According to Facebook, the couple, who call each other “King” and “Queen,” met in July 2022 before later having a baby and getting engaged.

The couple announced their pregnancy to Facebook friends on September 5, 2022.

“Can finally share our secret…expecting a mini-me in 2023,” Davila wrote.

On March 18, the couple publicly announced the birth of their child on Facebook with the caption, “The Princess is here.”

Just over a month later, Davila also announced her engagement to her partner.

Aydin, who has a Turkish background and calls himself 'The Turk', is currently studying at TAFE SA and has worked in various jobs.

His LinkedIn claims he has been a “self-employed CEO” for the past five years, but he does not name his company.

He posts about his love for his partner and daughter.

“Happy Mother's Day to my beautiful fiance, the mother of my daughter and the love of my life,” he wrote on Mother's Day.

'(The baby) and I love you with all our hearts, also to the moon and back infinite times. You are the best mother, the best mother, the most wonderful mother.'

He regularly posts on Facebook about his love for Turkey and has traveled there several times, most recently in 2017.

'I'm coming back to Australia in a month, a bit sad to have to leave Turkey so soon, but I have a lot of things to do in Australia. Anyway, it's been great so far,” he wrote.

Davila's social media suggests she has worked in a variety of roles, most recently as a sales assistant at retail fashion label Veronika Maine.

On LinkedIn, Davila described herself as an “honest and hardworking individual” with a “friendly, driven personality.”

'I pride myself on having a confident, friendly and driven personality. I have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently,” she wrote.

Davila also shared some more controversial posts on X.

'Do not you like me? Add yourself to the list, bitch! #jealousyisacurse,” one post reads.

“Oh my, I feel so special that your tweet was about me! Like I give two f****s about what you think of me #gochokeonad**k ciao x,” said another.

The pair appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday.

Magistrate Michael Jandy heard the couple were linked to the crime scene by DNA evidence on a headlamp and bloodstains found at Dr Yung's home.

Aydin, who wore a bandage over his bruised and swollen left eye, did not apply for bail.

Davila, who cried during her performance, will return to court next Wednesday, where Mr Jandy will consider releasing her on bail for house arrest.

The pair are due back in court in March for a hearing on the charges.

On Wednesday, Ny Breaking Australia revealed the pair both have a history of appearing in court for minor crimes.

In August they were evicted from their rental home for failure to pay the rent.

Over the past six years, the couple has each appeared in court more than twenty times for various minor cases, which cannot be reported for legal reasons.

A neighbor who lived next door to the couple in Mansfield Park, Adelaide, about 12 months ago described the couple as “nice” and “polite”, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.

Davila's brother told the same news outlet that he had not spoken to his sister in at least six years.

He said he only became aware of the allegations that his sister murdered Dr Yung after seeing media reports.

On Monday, as Dr Yung was still fighting for life at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, his 30-year-old son shared a family photo on Facebook.

The photo, taken in 1996, shows Dr. Yung, his late wife Kathryn and his son playing with party blowers as they celebrated one of his childhood birthdays.

Dr Yung's son was in the house at the time of the alleged attack, but was fortunately unharmed.

Police will claim they arrived to find the son 'distraught' and that Dr Yung had suffered injuries to the chest, intestines and head, causing brain haemorrhage.

The 61-year-old was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was put into an induced coma after emergency surgery, before his life support was switched off just over 24 hours later.

Despite an initial police theory that a youth gang was responsible, no link has been established between the arrested couple and those wanted in a recent crime spree in Adelaide.

SA Police had been investigating a series of burglaries in wealthy suburbs such as Gilberton, Medindie, Walkerville, Henley Beach, Fulham and Tennyson during Operation Mandrake.

Police have confirmed that detectives are not currently seeking any other suspects in Mr Yung's death.

Dr. Yung was the former head of pediatric intensive care at the Women's and Children's Hospital and had practiced medicine for almost four decades.

The eminent pediatrician's death is the latest tragedy for his family after Kathryn Browne-Yung, his health policy expert wife, died suddenly in her sleep in March 2020.

Shortly after her death, Dr. created Yung a $5,000 scholarship to support indigenous medical students in the name of his “kind, thoughtful and intelligent” wife.

His family has requested that donations be made to the Kathryn Browne-Yung Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.

Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage between midnight and 5am on Monday, December 11, within a 500 meter radius of James Street and Nottage Terrace in Gilberton, or anyone with information that could assist the investigation, to contact Crime Stoppers.
