Dr Michael Yung: Breakthrough as cops charge man and a woman with murder over the death of respected surgeon in his $2million Gilberton, Adelaide home

A man and a woman have been charged with murder over the alleged death of a respected surgeon in a home invasion.

Dr. Michael Yung, an intensive care pediatrician, was reportedly stabbed at his $2 million Gilberton home in Adelaide early Monday.

The 61-year-old was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was placed in an induced coma after emergency surgery.

His family made the heartbreaking decision to cut off his life support on Tuesday afternoon after being told his injuries were 'not survivable'.

Two people – a man, 22, and a woman, 27, both from Thebarton – were arrested at a home in Torrensville on Tuesday evening.

They have been charged with murder, aggravated serious criminal offenses and committing theft with violence. They will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

Acting Commissioner Linda Williams said the man and woman charged had no links to indigenous or African perpetrators targeted in Operations Mandrake and Meld.

“The motive is still to be developed as part of the investigation, but my advice is that there is no connection with the other activity in those suburbs or with any of the persons of interest we would normally deal with in Operation Mandrake,” she said. .

Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage between midnight and 5am on Monday, December 11, within a 500 meter radius of James Street and Nottage Terrace in Gilberton, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
