Dr. Dre has been accused of making a series of threats to his ex-marriage counselor in a newly filed $10 million lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed by Dr. Charles Sophy, a psychiatrist who said he counseled the 59-year-old Compton, California, resident and his ex-wife Nicole Young, 54, during their marriage and as a mediator after their divorce. TMZ reported Wednesday after reviewing legal documents in the case.
Sophy said in court documents that he was aware of the rapper’s threats and as a result put on a bulletproof vest as a precaution.
Sophy told the court that Dr. Dre began flooding him with “abusive and threatening text messages” in February 2023 — a year and two months after the bitter divorce was finalized in December 2021, according to TMZ.
Sophy said in legal documents that the Beats Electronics founder falsely accused him of orchestrating a smear campaign against him during the split with Young, the outlet reported.

Sophy told the court that Dr. Dre falsely claimed that Sophy had caused a third party to make inflammatory comments about him in the media.
Sophy said in legal documents that Dr. Dre sent texts promising he would ‘make it’ [Sophy] pay for that’, calling him a ‘piece of s***’ and a ‘b****’ amid the text rants.
The Forgot About Dre artist, whose full name is Andre Young, at one point had his associates pose as FBI agents to contact him in the gated community where he lives, Sophy alleged in the lawsuit, according to TMZ .
Sophy told the court in the aftermath of the incident — in which he said the employees posing as federal officials threatened to cause him bodily harm — that he had spent extra money securing his home.
Sophy said that as a result of the incident, he has been wearing body armor and hats whenever he leaves his home, the outlet reported.
Sophy also asked the court to issue a restraining order against Dr. Dre at least 100 yards away.
‘Dr. Sophy only filed his charges after failing to pressure Mr. Young to stop efforts to arrest Dr. Sophy punished for dereliction of duty and incredible incompetence,” Dr. Dre’s lawyer Howard King told TMZ.
King said that Dr. Dre filed a confidential complaint with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California in 2023 about his experience with Sophy.

King said that Dr.’s complaint Dre was done with the intention that officials would revoke Sophy’s medical license “to provide mental health care to indigent patients” after the events that occurred during the divorce.
“In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy embroiled himself in a controversial divorce, while simultaneously ‘treating’ not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children as well,” King told TMZ.
He continued: “He was fired when it became known that he encouraged one of their children to take sides against Mr. Young, and even encouraged his son to go to the press with false accusations to force a financial settlement that he recommended. ‘
King said Sophy has “consistently rejected” officials’ efforts to investigate the above allegations, describing its efforts in filing the lawsuit as “desperate.”
