Dr. Anthony Fauci spotted with private security after quietly ditching $15M taxpayer-funded detail
Dr. Anthony Fauci will no longer get taxpayer-funded security detail and SUVs after the US Marshals Service quietly dropped his nearly two-year, $15 million deal.
Despite retiring from his $480,000-a-year government job in December 2022, the nation’s top COVID doctor was placed on security detail for nearly two years.
During a publicity tour to promote his new book this summer, the 83-year-old Fauci said he was “afraid deep down that there’s a possibility that someone is going to kill me.”
Dr. Fauci, who is worth an estimated $11 million, was constantly surrounded by U.S. Marshals at the time, whether he was at home or going to TV studios to film interviews.
This cost taxpayers a total of $15 million memorandum of understanding between the US Marshals and the Department of Health and Human Services obtained by DailyMail.com first revealed.
This taxpayer-funded security arrangement quietly ended on September 30, 2024, the documents show, days before the election.
Trump teased during his campaign that he would slim down the “bloated” federal government that spends billions on unnecessary waste, and Fauci’s details would no doubt be high on that list.
He created a new agency, DOGE, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, to do just that.
Exclusive photos taken of Fauci at his home last weekend confirm that his taxpayer-funded department appears to have been disbanded.

And instead of the massive group of U.S. Marshals spotted at his home earlier this year, a number of private bodyguards were seen instead.
Over the summer, at least six U.S. Marshals and a fleet of vehicles were parked near Fauci.
The officers were ready whenever he wanted to leave his property – which is worth about $2.2 million, according to real estate websites.
Their Marshals pin badges were clearly visible and they were available all day if he had to travel.
His more recent observations reveal a much smarter security operation.

When pressed by DailyMail.com on why the detail was terminated, a spokesperson for the US Marshals responded in a statement: “The USMS does not release information about threats involving protected individuals.”
But they indicated that Fauci began footing the bill for his own protection.
“A signed memorandum of understanding and reimbursable agreement has been entered into between the Department of Health and Human Services and USMS regarding the details,” the spokesperson added.

This indicates that the money USMS and HHS approved for Fauci’s protection no longer exists, and his position was eliminated just before the presidential election and the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“I think we need to look at all the security details,” Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., told DailyMail.com of DOGE’s efforts.
He said it made “no sense” for Fauci to have details.
However, Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said some security data is justified, immediately referring to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who has used taxpayer-funded security data since leaving office.
DOGE, charged with eliminating unnecessary expenses (such as paying for the security of retired government officials), has already shaken up the status quo on Capitol Hill.

Musk is aggressively campaigning against a 1,547-page government funding bill just before Christmas. After ridiculing House Republican Party leadership for the deal, which he called “criminal,” lawmakers proposed a slimmer, 116-page bill before further refining the measure.
The DOGE X account already has its sights set on reducing waste at HHS posted about the NIH’s funding of a $2.3 million experiment to inject dogs with cocaine and another nearly $7 million NIH award for toilets that study “anal prints,” or the unique appearance of each individual at the back.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., an outspoken Fauci critic who has long criticized the doctor for driving around in limousines during his retirement, is also trying to slim down the waste — especially that overseen by the ex-chief medical adviser of Biden and Trump .
In a recent report, Paul further criticized Fauci for approving a multi-million dollar study to determine whether cats can contract COVID.
Since January 2022, Dr.’s NIAID Fauci and the USDA provided Cornell University $2.24 million to study whether felines can contract and transmit COVID-19,” the report said.

“Not only is this a waste of over $1 million in taxpayer money, but the experiments have led to the suffering and death of over 30 cats.”
In addition to halting funding for Fauci’s costly studies, Paul told DailyMail.com earlier this year that he wanted Fauci’s details to end.
‘I have received 34 death threats in the past week. I’ve already had death threats this past week,” Paul said openly. “So we get them all the time, and no one picks me up in a limo every day and takes me where I want to go.”
“The only other people who are likely to get their level of security are the president, the vice president, maybe members of the Cabinet and a few members in the leadership of the House of Representatives and the Senate,” the senator continued.
