Downton Abbey film producers ‘add two-time Oscar nominated actor’ to its star-studded cast: ‘It’s something of a coup for the creative team’
It has been revealed that the cast of the upcoming Downton Abbey film will include a two-time Oscar nominee.
The film, the third in the series, is believed to be in the works, along with a seventh series, eight years after the previous one.
Now the film’s cast includes someone whose 2024 Best Actor Oscar hopes for The Holdovers were thwarted by Cillian Murphy.
The American, 56, has appeared in films including Saving Private Ryan, Straight Out Of Compton and Twelve Years A Slave.
Paul Giamatti has reportedly joined the cast of Downton Abbey 3 as the team gets to work filming ahead of a 2025 release.

A TV insider said this The sun: ‘Fans of Downton will recognize Paul from his last appearance in Downton Abbey, as Harold Levinson, brother of the Countess of Grantham.
“But getting him back is still something of a coup for the creative team, as his career has increased his demand since then.
‘That will only increase since he was nominated for his Oscar for Best Actor. But he has now committed to being part of the new Downton film.”
The first two Downton Abbey films grossed a whopping £220 million at the Box Office.
The first 2019 film starred Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern as the Earl and Countess of Grantham.
Joined by Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess, they both returned in the 2022 sequel, Downton Abbey: A New Era, which split the action between the stately home and the south of France.
The ITV drama series itself debuted in 2010 and ran until 2015, with the first of the two films being released in 2019.
But just weeks after the Mail revealed there would be a seventh series of the show after eight years, The sun has reported that filming is also scheduled to begin on a third film.
The same cast and behind-the-scenes team return to Highclere Castle, Hampshire, where the new film picks up where the second left off: the late 1920s.
The film, made by Carnival Films, would have required the return of the entire cast, something that would likely have been a logistical challenge.
