Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge broke the world record during his fifth Berlin marathon on Sunday.

Kipchoge – who set the previous world record in Berlin in 2018 with a time of 2:01.39 – crossed the line at 2:01:10 on Sunday morning.

Kipchoge’s fourth win in Berlin also matched Haile Gebrselassie’s achievement, who won the 2006-2009 race.

Kipchoge, who turns 38 in November, did not compete at the World Championships in Eugene this summer.

However, he did compete in the Tokyo Marathon in March and broke the course record with 2:02:40, the fourth fastest time in history.

As a result, Kipchoge has now won 15 of his 17 career marathons, including two Olympic gold medals and 10 major titles.
