Double Big Mac: Why Americans are freaking out over ‘obscene’ Aussie Big Mac set to be launched at US McDonald’s
An Australian McDonald’s item is set to appear in the United States, but some fast food aficionados say the burger is “obscene.”
The Double Big Mac will be available in US McDonald’s restaurants from January 24 for a limited time and is already arousing curiosity and disgust.
The huge four-patty burgers have been a staple in Australia since March 2020 and were advertised with the slogan ‘double the fun’.
But some skeptical Americans on X said it should be more about “double the chemicals” or “double the calories.”

“Yes, because we need to get bigger thanks,” one person wrote.
Another said: ‘Are they going to call it the Heart Attack Mac?’
For others, however, the excessive 680 calorie count was the main selling point.
“I’m going to eat one and feel disgusting afterwards, but I bet I’ll love every minute of it,” one person wrote on Facebook.
Another said: ‘McDonald’s Double Big Mac is coming to US restaurants soon. I don’t normally do big Macs, but yes, here you go.’
Double Big Macs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Britain and Japan, but one diner couldn’t help but notice one ‘problem’.
“Still just one slice of cheese,” the man said with an eye-roll emoji.
American diners on social media were divided over the burger due to its excessive calorie count, while others couldn’t wait to try it
The price of Double Big Mac meals in the US has not yet been announced, but it could cost as much as $30.
US McDonald’s prices rose 14 per cent in Q3 2023, with one restaurant charging $AU27 for a regular Big Mac combo meal in October.
McDonald’s menus have “double” options for most burgers, including the Double Quarter Pounder, Double McChicken and the Double Filet-O-Fish.
The Double Big Mac was originally introduced in the US for a limited time in 2020 and was an instant hit with customers.
