Don’t know yet which movie to watch this weekend? Leave a comment, we will help you

We love movie recommendations here at Polygon. Whether it’s horror, sci-fi, action, comedy, thrillers or just the best of the year, we always try to introduce readers to new and exciting films that they will love. But now we want to find the perfect movie for you. (That’s you.)

Every Thursday on Polygon we have an open thread dedicated to helping you, our dear readers, find the perfect watch for this weekend. Looking for a science fiction film that makes you think about the wonders (or horrors) of the world? We got you. Want to refresh your world cinema? How about some comfort food? We have you there too.

From 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM EST, I’ll be answering your questions and submitting requests about what to watch this weekend in the comments section below.

A little about me, your curator for this week: I’m Pete Volk, our senior curatorial editor. I love movies of all shapes and sizes, but my main areas of interest are action movies (especially martial arts), classic Hollywood comedies (shout out to the GOAT, Ernst Lubitsch), and keeping up with new releases from around the world (I’ve been in total 152 watched films from 2023 and 12 from 2024 so far).

Last week I watched Tak Sakaguchi’s meta-actioner One percent (a very wild ride with fantastic fight choreography), Chantal Akerman’s romantic comedy A bank in New York (a good, fun time), and revisited Denzel Washington’s detective noir Devil in a blue dress (an old favorite and a perfect movie, for me). I’m done too Mr. Spade (an enjoyable hang, but way too much plot for such a short show!). This week I plan to take a look Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom now that it’s about Max, and maybe Napoleon on Apple TV Plus.

I also want to give a quick shoutout to Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Sample, which is now available for rent at home. It’s probably my favorite movie of 2023 (that distinction shifts daily, but it’s between this and The zone of interest), and has not received the attention it deserves as a carefully crafted and exceptionally executed mystery.

Now it’s time to turn it around on you. What would you like to see (or what are you planning to watch) this weekend? Leave a request in the comments and I’ll get back to you between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM EST. Details help: let me know what you’re looking for, an idea of your tastes as a viewer, and any other relevant information you’d like to share (such as the streaming services you have access to). And yes, while this idea is focused on movies, I will take TV requests as well.

Some examples of good queries from last week:

See you in the comments at 3:30 PM EST! In the meantime, fire off your requests.
