Don’t expect any major changes to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s cameras based on this leak

Ahead of rumors of its unveiling at next week’s Made By Google event (taking place on August 13), details about the Pixel 9 Fold’s cameras have leaked, and they don’t look bad.

The leaks come through Camera FV-5 (spotted by 91mobiles) and seemingly spoiled the specs of the main front and rear cameras for the upcoming foldable camera. The rear snapper will be able to capture 12MP images (expected to be achieved by using a 48MP sensor and pixel binning – the process of combining pixel data in image processing – resulting in cleaner shots) with a large f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization (to remove vibrations from your photos and videos).

If that’s the case, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s main camera will be identical to what we saw on the original Pixel Fold, so the device will have to lean on its other cameras for an upgrade, assuming the camera setup gets upgraded at all.

Meanwhile, the main front-facing camera is apparently a 10MP snapper with an f/2.2 aperture. The report doesn’t reveal whether this is the cover display’s selfie camera, or the foldable’s selfie camera. Either way, it’s an improvement, as the original had 9.5MP and 8MP sensors respectively – though it still falls short of the Google Pixel 8’s 10.5MP front-facing camera.

As with all leaks, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Until Google makes an official announcement, we won’t know for sure what the specs of this foldable phone will look like. But so far, things aren’t looking too bad for the upcoming phone.

In addition to those cameras, leaks claim that the new foldable phone will get larger displays – now set at a 6.3-inch outer display and an 8-inch foldable display. Additionally, we’re expecting it to have similar specs to what have been rumored for the regular Pixel 9 Pro. So, expect a Tensor G4 chipset and 16GB of RAM.

In addition to the Pixel 9 smartphone lineup, we’re also expecting a new Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds 2 Pro, but we’ll have to wait and see what’s announced on August 13.
